| What about ethical issues concerning stem cell
usage for therapeutic and research purposes? |
 |
|
| There are many ethical issues associated
with stem cell research. The ICBB project uses blood taken exclusively
from live and healthy, normal births. Each mother signs an informed
consent acknowledging the fact that she willingly donates the placenta
(which will otherwise be discarded) to ICBB. The cord blood units
are stored frozen for future stem cell transplant and made available
to any patient who may need it. Units that are found inadequate for
transplantation are used for research. |
|
| Both the rabbinate and the medical/scientific
community are solidly in support of this project. Please click below
to view letters of support for ICBB's work from some of Israel's most
orthodox rabbinical personalities as well as from leading theologians,
political, and philanthropic personalities. |
